Getting Certified

1

Choose an approved course

Select any NASBLA-approved course from the list above. Online courses are the fastest option for most new boaters.

2

Complete the coursework

Work through all modules and pass the final exam. Most online courses require a score of 80% or higher to receive your certificate.

3

Receive your certificate

Your completion certificate will be issued by the course provider. Print it and keep it on board whenever you operate a motorized vessel.

4

Carry it on board

New York State law requires you to have proof of completion on board at all times. A laminated copy or digital version on your phone both work.
